Liberty Hill Municipal Court Adopts Youth Diversion Plan

The Liberty Hill Municipal Court of Record adopted a written Youth Diversion and Early Intervention Plan effective January 1, 2025, in compliance with Texas House Bill 3186. The plan sets procedures for diverting eligible juveniles ages 10-16 enrolled in public school charged with fine-only, non-traffic misdemeanors to educational and community service programs, subject to the plan's conditions.

What to know

The plan was ordered by Presiding Judge Kevin R. Madison on December 5, 2024, and became effective on January 1, 2025. [1]

The court's plan lists eligibility as juvenile defendants ages 10-16 enrolled in public school, with charges other than traffic cases diverted. [1]

Eligibility requires written agreement by the child and parent; defendants with a previously unsuccessful diversion or where a prosecutor objects are ineligible. [1]

Diversion strategies may include participation in educational programs, community service limited to 20 hours, and restitution not exceeding $100. [1]
